7 DAY PSA
The 7DAYPSA Competition comes from the imagination of Original Concept & Development Associates. The goal was to challenge filmmakers to use their skills to produce what really is a "micro short film" in order to meet a need in the local community. The 7DAYPSA motivates filmmakers to use their skills that inspire, motivate and create change by writing, shooting and editing public service announcements for local non-profit organizations in a timed competition. In this competition, filmmakers can be proactive about their careers and their karma.
In an economic climate when deserving non-profit organizations are often struggling for resources to operate, they do not have the funds to produce a broadcast quality public service announcement that could raise awareness of their organization. It is this current lack of public awareness that impacts both their ability to raise funds and to inform the public of their services. Media outlets that had once been able to both produce and air public service announcements for free, no longer have the available production resources or personnel to produce those PSA's. However, there is a resource that is going untapped. Local independent filmmakers have shown that they have the creative skills to produce original and imaginative features, short, and micro-short films, and they are looking to garner professional credits for their resumes.
The 7DAYPSA competition is administered by FLICKERS (aka the Rhode Island International Film Festival) as a Creative Impulse Award competition that brings local filmmakers together with local non-profit organizations to provide these deserving organizations with a broadcast quality PSA along with a commitment from local media outlets to air each of those spots that are chosen by the client non-profit organizations. Starting with the premiere event in Providence, Rhode Island, this competition is continuing to grow with events in Portland )ME), Boston (MA), New Hampshire, Connecticut and beyond, supported by a host of major media outlets and industry prize sponsors.
